Myvi SE
When Perodua launched the Myvi back in May 2005, the car flew off the shelves at a rate which shocked even their own bosses. Now, four years on, after over 354,000 units sold, the Myvi still shows no signs of slowing down, with the model recording its highest ever sales figure in July 2009.
Perodua MD, Datuk Syed Abdull Hafiz Syed Abu Bakar was fond of noting that the Myvi, unlike their other models, is a car that sells itself. Its grip on the Malaysian market is almost iron-clad.
Every variant of the Myvi sells, and sells well, from the base 1.0, all the way to the dressed-up SE models. Though we find the SE overpriced, the rest of the range ticks all the right boxes for the average Malaysian buyer - price, space, practicality, FC, resale, and reliability.
Despite its runaway success, Perodua is not resting on its laurels, even as far as the Myvi is concerned. Facelifted only last year, Perodua is now selling 5,000 units of new limited edition of the Myvi, which it calls the Exclusive Edition.
Distinguishing the new Myvi Exclusive Edition from the standard Myvis are 14" alloy rims (taken from the pre-facelift SE), side skirts, and chromed door handles. It will come in three colour options - Ebony Black, Ivory White, and Medallion Grey.
Inside, you get a 2-DIN MP3/WMA compatible audio system with CD-Player and USB connectivity. A Bluetooth hands-free function is also integrated as standard. The inner door handles are also finished in chrome, with the seats, doors, and steering wheel trimmed in leather.
Through the official press release from Perodua, Syed Hafiz was quoted as saying, "I wish to thank all Malaysians for making the Myvi the best selling model for nearly five years and as an added bonus to Myvi enthusiasts, we present to you this limited Myvi Exclusive Edition for those who are looking for style and exclusivity."
In terms of pricing, the automatic transmission only Myvi Exclusive Edition slots between the Myvi EZi and Myvi SE. In the Peninsula, you can drive one off the showroom floor for RM51,500.00 (solid) or RM51,500 (metallic).
